The West Africa Health Organization was distinguished by the award of a certificate of recognition on the occasion of the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the « Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Program » (FELTP) of the School of Public Health, University of Ghana.

The prize awarded was to show the interest and recognition of the highest authorities of the Republic of Ghana for WAHO’s precious contribution to the training of field epidemiologists mainly from four anglophone countries (Gambia, Sierra Leone, Liberia et Ghana).

The Trainees, from this training session had the vision to “improve the health of people in Ghana and beyond” and are involved, in their respective countries, in surveillance and response to major Public Health events, including non-communicable diseases.

Indeed WAHO made the promotion of FELTP one of its major strategies for continuously improving preparedness and response to epidemics and other health emergencies in the ECOWAS region.

This support from WAHO was possible thanks to the implementation of the regional WARDS and REDISSE projects funded by the World Bank.

During this colorful ceremony, WAHO also committed itself to to supporting the establishment of a regional network of field epidemiologists in order to guarantee the availability of competent human resources to effectively respond to health threats and strengthen the operationalization of the ECOWAS Regional Rapid Task Force.

Finally, WAHO would like to cease the opportunity to once again thank the World Bank and all the other technical and financial partners who are supporting the training of field epidemiologists in West Africa.
