On the margins of the World Health Assembly being held in Geneva from 20-28 May, WAHO DG and his team met with the Global Fund team for West and Central Africa to explore potential areas of collaboration and funding for some key interventions. The DG made a presentation which highlighted WAHO's comparative advantage as a specialized health institution of ECOWAS and key areas in which a WAHO - Global Fund collaboration could be focused. The presentation generated stimulating discussions notably on human resource for health, curricula harmonization, pre-service training, domestically generated funds for health, including earmarked taxes on beverages, tobacco etc.; nutrition; proposed Global Network on Anti-corruption, Transparency, and Accountability; as well as WAHO's unique role in the region vis-a-vis the WHO.
