The West Africa Health Organization (WAHO) presented a sum of 30 million CFAF to the burkinabè State this Thursday 17 August 2017 to support the treatment of persons wounded to during the café Aziz Istanbul attack.

Dr Xavier Crespin, Director General of WAHO, on behalf of ECOWAS, explained: “it is to present our condolences to the people of Burkina Faso and also contribute our moral and financial support at this difficult moment”.

“I take the opportunity to launch an appeal for the strengthening of health systems in our countries to make them consistently responsive to needs of the situation”. We should not wait for difficult moments like this to get mobilised. There should be permanent mobilisation towards strengthening our health facilities. I am also launching an appeal for blood donation to the persons wounded”, he added.

Robert Sangaré explained to the blood donors that day the role Yalgado Ouédraogo medical centre played with regard to the treatment of persons wounded at the café Aziz Istanbul attack on 13 August. Currently, one person is still hospitalised at Yalgado and two other wounded persons have been sent to Blaise Compaoré hospital.

The other wounded persons whose condition did not require hospitalisation were discharged but would continue with their treatment. Robert Sangaré explained that the presentation was made to the government and that its utilisation will be determined by the hierarchy of the Ministry of health for the treatment of the persons wounded.

Concerning the wounded person at Yalgado Ouédraogo hospital, he explained that it was a young Burkinabè of nigerian origin, aged 21, who was shot in the head just under the skin. The bullet was extracted and “his life is not in danger”.

Yvette Dembélé, representing of the Minister of health, pointed out that “the WAHO presentation translates the solidarity of our brothers and sisters of this sub-regional organisation”. “This support will contribute to the treatment of all the persons wounded and will enable family members of the victims to receive some comfort and courage to get along”, she indicated.

During the presentation, a minute silence was observed for the victims of the café Aziz Istanbul attack. It is worth noting that the Yalgado Ouédraogo hospital was the main Health facility that received the wounded persons.
