Annual meeting of regional data warehouse managers

Abidjan, 5 March 2018 – Deliberations of the workshop for training human and animal health data managers of the (8) ECOWAS francophone countries started in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on 5 March 2018 in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Health, Ministries in charge of livestock, the representative of the “Regional Action through Data” (RAD) project and the staff of the West Africa Health Organization (WAHO). The deliberations focused on the utilization of the regional warehouse on sharing health information within the ECOWAS region.

The meeting introduced the concept of “One Health” and it’s objective was to take stock of the current utilization of the regional data warehouse and to build the technical capacities of the data managers so as to update it.


The opening ceremony was marked by three (03) statements: the representative of the Togolese Minister of Health and Social Action, Chairman of the ECOWAS Assembly of Health Ministers, Dr Lamboni Matéyendou, in his speech, expressed appreciation for the organization of the meeting. He emphasized the importance of data in decision-making. He expressed the hope that the objectives of the meeting would be achieved. Finally, wished the meeting a great success.


The Coordinator of the REDISSE project, Dr Dogbé Koku Sika, on behalf of WAHO, outlined the objectives of the meeting. He thanked the partners for their constant support, particularly the World Bank group and USAID, for their financial support towards the organization of this series of training through the REDISSE and CAPS projects.  Before wishing everyone fruitful participation in the meeting, he thanked the Government of Côte d’Ivoire for granting authorization for the organization of the meeting. 


The Representative of the Ivoirian Minister of health and public hygiene, Dr Kone Blaise Atimona, Deputy Director of the National Institute for Public Hygiene of Côte d’Ivoire (INHP), in his opening statement thanked WAHO for choosing Abidjan as the venue for the meeting. He emphasized the relevance of the issues that would be discussed during the meeting; issues which would certainly contribute to the attainment of the objectives of the meeting. He reiterated the availability of the Ivoirian Minister of Health and Public Hygiene to support and monitor the recommendations that will come out of the meeting. Finally, on behalf of the Minister, he declared the meeting open.
