Meeting to align the content of FELTP programmes of the Universities of Ouagadougou and Ghana as part of the REDISSE project implementation.

Accra, Ghana 3 November 2017 – The West Africa Health Organisation (WAHO) organised, from 2 to 3 November 2017 at the School of Public Health, University of Ghana, a consultative meeting on the alignment of the content of the FELTP programmes of the Universities of Ouagadougou and Ghana as part of implementation REDISSE project interventions.

At the two-day meeting were representatives from the Universities of Ouagadougou and Ghana, a representative of FELTP Nigeria, a representative of AFENET and WAHO officials. Professor Abdoulaye Diallo, acting director of the WAHO Department of Human Resource Development, led the WAHO delegation, which comprised the Professional in charge of the Regional Rapid Task Force, the Professional in charge of budget and the REDISSE project Coordinator.

The objective of the meeting was to align the content of the FELTP training programmes, as proposed by the universities for the implementation of the REDISSE project. More specifically, the meeting was to:
Description : - Discuss with representatives of the institutions presents, the integration of the “One health” approach into the training curriculum; 
Description : - Identify and formalise the areas of collaboration, exchange and experience sharing between the two institutions (exchange of residents, joint investigations, language issues and others….); 
Description : - Harmonise the structure of the cost of training the residents of each institution; 
Description : - Help finalise the technical and financial proposals of the two institutions for the continuation of the FELTP training programme.

The opening ceremony was marked by two speeches, that of the Acting Director of the Department of Human Resource Development, who represented the Director General WAHO, and that of the representative of the Dean of the University of Ghana.

The Director of the Department of Human Resources, on behalf of the Director General of WAHO, thanked the authorities of the University of Ghana for accepting to host the meeting. He thereafter expressed his sincere gratitude to the participants from the University of Ouagadougou, FELTP Nigeria and AFENET for having accepted to contribute their technical support to the meeting. After recalling the recommendations during the meeting of the two Universities at the WAHO headquarters on 2 October 2017 to determine FELTP interventions, he thanked the World Bank group and the other partners for their various forms of technical and financial support through the implementation of health projects in ECOWAS countries. He concluded by wishing the meeting successful deliberations.

The representative of the Dean of the School of Public Health, University of Ghana, opened the proceedings of the meeting. In his speech, he welcomed all participants and expressed satisfaction for the choice of the University of Ghana for the meeting. He reiterated the readiness of the University to continue the training of staff in the region in field epidemiology. To conclude, he expressed the wish that the recommendations that would come out of the meeting would be translated into reality to enable the countries to benefit from the capacity building of their staff, and manage epidemics and public health emergencies. He then officially opened the meeting.
