WAHO To Convene the 26th Assembly of Health Ministers of ECOWAS in Praia, Cabo Verde

The West African Health Organisation (WAHO) is pleased to announce the 26th Assembly of Health Ministers (AHM) of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), to be held from 4 to 10 May 2025 in Praia, Cabo Verde.

This year’s Assembly of Health Ministers is convened under the theme: "Regional Community Health Policy Based on Consensus Standards and Principles", with the following sub-themes:

  1. Analysis of the effects of United States decision on your country's health system.
  2. Bulk procurement of medicines and other health commodities.
  3. Vaccines against Lassa fever.
  4. WAHO cooperation with third parties.

The week-long event will bring together key health stakeholders from across the region in a series of high-level meetings:

  • WAHO Liaison Officers Meeting: 4 May 2025
  • ECOWAS Health Experts Meeting: 5–6 May 2025
  • Partners’ Forum: 7–8 May 2025
  • Assembly of ECOWAS Health Ministers: 9–10 May 2025

The Assembly of Health Ministers (AHM) of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) provides a key platform for political dialogue, the sharing of experiences, and the adoption of joint strategies, reaffirming WAHO’s central role in building a regional health system that is integrated, equitable, and accessible to all. It also serves as a space for collaboration among ECOWAS Member States, development partners, and technical experts.

Established in 1987 as the technical arm of ECOWAS for health matters, the West African Health Organisation (WAHO) has played a vital role in harmonising health policies, promoting regional integration, and coordinating health responses across Member States. For several years, WAHO has been a cornerstone in strengthening health systems and significantly contributing to the well-being of populations across West Africa.
